There has been dramatic increase in the number of people with ED. Therefore it is important for these men to find effective treatment of the erectile dysfunction. The patient can start ED treatment at home and ED can be diagnosed before symptoms. The patient should be able to understand the conditions.
What Is Erectile Dysfunction?
Men can have problems in achieving
erectile dysfunction at some time. It can be due to different causes like anxiety,
fatigue, and excessive alcohol consumption. It can be due to some occasional
problems as well. The sudden inability of having erection can be due to
psychological factors. There can come negative thoughts like disagreement with
sex partner, financial partner, job problem just an erection for sex and these
thoughts can prevent a man from sex. These men can have erections when they are
in sleep in this sort of erectile problem or even when these men get up in the
morning.
There can be occasional erection problem as well which is not same as ED as ED is persistent in ability of a man to achieve and maintain erection in order to have satisfying sexual intercourse. It is considered as accepted medication definition for erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction is chronic and it is persistent problem. It is important to note that it is erectile dysfunction and not impotence because there can be heavy, negative connotations with word impotence while erectile dysfunction is simply and accurately described as the physical problem. The men might not be able to have sufficient erection for penetration but they can have normal sex drive and they can achieve orgasm and ejaculate. There will be no effect on their fertility.
The Anatomy of an Erection
It is important for you to understand the physiology of penis in order to understand the causes of erectile dysfunction. There are three chambers in the penis. Two chambers are called corpora cavernosa and paired on top while one chamber is called corpora spongiosum and it is on the bottom containing urethra. These chambers are surrounded by the elastic membrane known as tunica albuginea. Spongy tissue is filled in these chambers on smooth muscles which look like sliced tomato. The arteries are in small shape. Mental and physical stimulation is required for erection. The sequence of events is important for achieving an erection. The complex interplay between nerves and blood vessels can maintain stimulated erection once it is initiated. The muscles will need to relax, arteries need to dilate and veins can compress in this process. There should be no disturbance in this sequence otherwise you will have erectile dysfunction problem. There can be disruption in spinal cord, brain, fibrous tissues, arteries, veins, and penis as well as malfunctioning of muscles.
